next on fox 45 early edition. another winter blast. same sex couples here in maryland. a controversial opinion from the attorney general. what it could mean for same-sex marriage in maryland. i'm not one to post all kinds of pictures. tmi, how sharing too much information online could cost you. good morning. it's thursday, february 25th, i'm patrice harris. some of you are waking up to snow falling this morning, not a lot of snow, just a few, light pretty flakes at the moment.

will it stay that way is the question. meteorologist steve fertig is here to answer the question. i woke up and peeked out the window and the street wasn't blanketed and the said there's hope. >> not a lot of hope. >> right across to my spirit, steve. >> here is the deal. we're going to see snow showers early this morning for the eastern shore and then we are going to see a bit of a break this afternoon, and then we will see the reintroduction of the snow. winter storm warning through tomorrow morning, for cecil county, and for garrett county to the west. that will be on the peripheral system to the west. and with the up slope of the mountains, seeing more snow there perhaps. here we see a winter storm watch for the east and harford county that continues through this morning until 11:00 a.m. the snow showers we see here, will be this morning and then it will stop for a while and we have the winter weather advisory

that continues beyond that through tonight and tomorrow on the west side of the chesapeake bay because we're concerned for more snow. we will get into a couple of scenarios in terms of how much snow we will see. we are seeing snow and rain and sleet mixed in and a few showers mixed in further west where it's chillier this morning. you with can see 23 degrees in oakland otherwise hovering above the breezing mark into the mid-30s. that's why we're seeing a mix right now. where we're headed to 36, that is what we are going to see for a high, and it will be windy. that will become the bigger story into the evening hours. 15-20-mile-an-hour winds and ofting to 40-mile-an-hour winds at times. those winds will gust higher at times. and through the nighttime we will add more at least. we will talk about the possibilities in that regard in just a few minutes. right now we do want to check on the roadways with candace dold. she is here with the traffic

edge. and so far, maybe not too bad? >> reporter: not too bad. it's slick out there so you need to be a irwha a aware of that. big time trouble on 95, there's an accident that happened at 11:30 on the northbound lanes on mountain road. it completely shuts down the northbound end of the corridor, so we can show you exactly what ta scene looks like there and you can see the traffic that is being detoured off to mountain road. already a lengthy delay because of this one. as for the detour, it's going to take you to mountain road and head to route 40 where you can stick with route 40 as an alternate. farther down on 95, no problems to report on the southbound lanes from the fort mchenry tunnel toward beltway 8 minute clip at 55 miles per hour. the beltway so far in excellent shape, there again just a bit slick, 95 toward 83, 11 minutes at 53 miles per hour. that's a look at the morning

travels, patrice. over to you. it's been a busy winter for road crews and this morning they're back in action as more snow begins to blanket our region. megan gilliland is live at the salt dome on falls road with the latest on what is happening there now. it looks quiet, but i'm guessing in not too long from now it's going to be businessy place. >> reporter: it's loud right now. we have lines of trucks loaded up and ready to hit the roads as soon as the snow gets heavy. as soon as this picks up they're ready to roll and the hit road for this next round of snow. state highway crews are already presalting some rhodes in the western part of our region and crews everywhere ready to roll as the storm picks up. >> actually what they predict that they will be lower

accumulation, so we feel pretty confident that we will be able to confident it, especially given what we have been through this winter. >> reporter: while totals might be a little lower this time around city road crews say that their equipment has taken a big hit. the biggest blizzard created damage to the city's 240 plows. maintenance was costing nearly $1,500 to fix. 95% of the plows are back on the roads and fixed to go perhaps for another winter blast. you can see behind me, they have a lot of salt on this dome, to make sure that the roads are safe if this storm becomes yet another issue. patrice, back to you. megan as hard as they have been working especially during the last two blizzards, i'm sure they're keeping their fingers crossed that this one doesn't amount to too much. >> reporter: i was told that many of them are at home resting and preparing hoping not for the

12 hours of the last blizzard. >> megan, you were talking about the salt supply, it's good to see through capacity, because we have been going through salt like nobody's business. >> reporter: if you remember we were here before the blizzard and it was filled, but it's almost halfway filled. we should be good for today, at least. >> megan gilliland reporting live in north baltimore, thank you. city police are investigating a deadly stabbing in west baltimore. the 35-year-old victim was discovered tuesday inside of a home in the 1400 block of north dukeland street. the killing brings this city's murder rate to 23 for the year compared to 35 murders at the same time in 2009. a 72 years old man pleads guilty to producing child porn with a 5-year-old. the november 2008 the young girl told harford county officials that george heyward had sexual

contact with her several times. his home was searched and on his computer investigators found images of several children taken inside and out of his home. hayward now faces up 30 years in prison when he is sentenced in april. he may also lose his home. it's the first time many in public have seen sheila dixon since she stepped down from office. last night the former mayor was at an event speaking out against crime. he was the party of investigative voice website. she said the focus should not be just on police. >> there are other issues that impact baltimore is such a violent city that don't have to do with having a police officer in every corner. i think the media needs to balance it out. i think we forget about -- >> dixon resigned as mayor

earlier this month after being convicted of embezzling gift cards from the needy. a supreme court rules on a maryland case and establishes a timeframe for how long a suspect's request for counsel is valid. it solves a case o involves a co was requested a lawyer and later he was rearrested and confessed to the crime and was convicted. the request for an attorney is valid for only 14 days. same-sex marriages performed in other states can be recognized in maryland. that is according to the attorney general. his long awaited opinion came down yesterday and was immediately met with controversy. his opinion is not law but it's meant to guide how agencies and courts deal with the issue. the same sex is marriages in maryland are still illegal, but gay rights advocates hope this announcement will hope to

opening the door to reversing that. gantzler agrees that his decision may prompt lawmakers to consider a change. >> people allowed to drive in maryland with a valid virginia or pennsylvania driver's license, they will be treated as married in the state of maryland with a valid license by those states that recognize same-sex marriage. >> the attorney -- opponents of the same-sex marriages are outraged over the decision. delegate don dwier says he is filing papers to have the attorney general impeached. changes to the pension system could be in the works for baltimore city firefighters and police officers. they were to look into the ma matter. they suggest that pensions become more like 401(k) plans. the group wants to establish age requirements for retirement since the age that people retire is changing at a rapid pace.

across the united states. >> reporter: the company's president trying to make amends. >> i intend to make every effort how humble it may be to achieve the transformation and rebirth of the company with safety and the customer first. >> reporter: federal safety officials have received reports linking 34 deaths in the outs to safety defects to cars and trucks made by the company in the last 10 years. the company says most of the problems are related to sticky gas pedals. on the assembly line employees of this kentucky plant don't take the recall lightly. the town's identity has become closely tied to toyota because so many people work for the automaker. >> toyota, georgetown. >> reporter: ultimately employees want their company to stay above the 48. the workers emphasize even a japanese company owns the brand, they're american made cars, which means many american jobs are on the line.

tting ready for another round of snow. the system approaching our region isn't likely to bring as much snow as our last two storms, thankfully, but maryland is still under a few watches and warnings. meteorologist jessica starr is live at the parkville area with more, good morning, jess. here we go again. >> reporter: i know, good morning, patrice. the good news is the bulk of the morning and the amount of the snow showers will stay to the north. that doesn't mean we won't see rainshowers. when i drove this this morning it was a rain-snow kind of mix.

right now you can see light snow showers. the temperature is above freezing so the snow is not accumulating on the ground. let's get you to the watches and warnings. let's start off with the winter storm warning for the eastern shore until noon tomorrow. they have the potential to get strong gusty winds and more accumulating snow including cecil county and the western counties until 11:00 a.m. this is the one we're concerned for baltimore county, howard county, and anne arundel county, this one is in effect until this morning. and the winter storm watch is in until 11:00 a.m. a little bit of what you can expect through the daytime through today. snow showers until 1:00 p.m. we could see 1-3 inches possible through the morning hours until after lunch hour today. what is going to happen is we're going to get a break in the snow, because we're going to get on the backside of the low pressure system the coastal low. the winds are going to start to

increase this afternoon out the northwest, and right at 5:00 this evening through tomorrow morning that is when we have the potential to see more snow showers and to get 2-4 inches. all in all we could see 3-7 inches and more snow toward sececil county and philadelphia. for a look at the rest of the forecast and what is happening this weekend, let's head to the sky watch weather center. >> reporter: jessica, i think you're right, i think the winds will be the story later today. you can he see we have a bit of a mix as jessica was telling us especially toward the eastern shore more wind moving in there. not as much know in the western counties as maybe in is the case later in the day. this is the area that has the best chance of getting more significant snow fall up toward cecil county. the further north and east you go the better chance of seeing more snow. this is a new england storm that we're getting the backlash of, although the system may curl back to the south later tonight

and we add to the totals. we will get to that in a moment. as can you see the bigger picture this is where we think the heaviest snow will be up toward the central part of new york and into the northeast part of new york. if you have plans to go to the poconos then you will know that it's going to be rough getting out of thereby tomorrow. the low pressure center, upper coastal low to the north and you will see that the break occurs later this afternoon at 1:00. it looks like we're done with it and then you will see more snow move back in a little bit more by tonight as the low pressure center intensifies up the northeast coast up new england. with this system, we may get a strong wind on the backside of this. that strong wind will be coming from the north and west and also we will talk about the possibility of that low, actually moving back, let's see if we can bring it down to the south, actually and that will allow for more snow fall totals as we move into the next day or so. take a look, 1, 2, 3 inches of

snow for the west, and 3-6 for the central counties and 5-10 for the northeast if that low continues to track north. if it loops back to the south, we up the totals 5-10 inches for the central county, and 6-12 in the northeast part of the state and lesser amounts as you go further points west. 35 in d.c., 34 in salisbury. 35 in hagerstown. the temperatures hovering above freezing right now but they're expecting to drop later in the day. the winds are expected to get up 25-35 miles per hour gusting higher than that. 34 degrees with the gusts up to 40. snow showers more prevalent to the north and east of the eastern shore. 34 degrees for the central part of the state where we get the snow accumulating but the winds become a factor as they gust to 40. back to the west, we look at 45 degrees with a 13 to 30-mile-an-hour winds. windy with 35 to 45-mile-an-hour

winds. we pick up an addition 1-3 after 1-3 during the day if we stay on the low side. tomorrow snow showers taper offing becoming a snow shower. we can't rule out to a snow shower on saturday but it won't amount to much then. 45 on monday, 44 on tuesday and wednesday 42 degrees with a chance of some snow showers back in the forecast. all right, let's check in with candace dold who has a look at what is happening on the roadways with the traffic edge. >> reporter: thank you, steve. we are talking about 95 this morning. and it's all because of an accident on the northbound lanes completely shutting down the northbound end of the corridor at mountain road. we do want to show you what the scene looks like there and here it is on 95. you can see all of that traffic is being detoured on to mountain road. now the good news is you can hop on to route 40 once you're there. you do at least have some options for the alternate. it's going to be a bit of a hectic ride.

now 95 is actually nice and quiet moving through baltimore county and the white harsh region down toward the beltway. on 95 right at 395 checking in through baltimore right now the northbound and southbound lanes, we can show you the scene and here it is, a few cars there in both directions. now 95, near the airport, no problems to report in either direction, either, but we do need to tell you though, about an accident up toward the eastern shore on route 50. there was an earlier crash but now it's generally jammed on eastbound by from cape st. clair all the way down toward the bay bridge. that's a look at the morning commute, patrice, back over to you. we've heard the girls now it's the guy's turn. the top 12 guys showed america what they were made of on american idol last night. >> i can hear the truck tires coming up ♪ ♪ the gravel road
